Experience

Before starting my student teaching I worked as an academic coach at High Tech Elementary Chula Vista. I was primarily a one-on-one with a 5th-grade student. During this time I was able to work alongside an amazing team of educators and was able to learn a great deal about teaching. It was while working with the students at this school that I made the decision to pursue my teaching credential. the years I spent working as an Academic coach will always have a special place in my history.

The first half of the school year I had the absolute pleasure of working with Ms. Amanda. It was a wonderful experience getting to be a part of this classroom, and it felt amazing to learn alongside the students in this classroom. During this portion of my student teaching my focus was being up in front of students, and learning my teacher presence.While here I learned the importance of really taking the time to get to know your students, and to incorporate their interests into your teaching. I met some amazing students, and it was quite the experience getting to see them learn and grow as the year went on. 

The second half of the school year I got to work with the equally amazing Ms. Sam. I was pretty excited to work with this group because I have known a lot of these kids since they were in second grade. In this part of my student teaching I was focused on the behind the scenes aspects of teaching (how do we plan a whole week of activities? how about a whole project?).
